Welcome message from the President of Skal International Litsa Papathanassi:
Dear Skalleagues,
It is with great pleasure that I will welcome you to Antalya, Turkey, for the 68th Skal World Congress from 4 to 9 November 2007. I will welcome you there in my capacity as President of Skal International, but also as a host because Antalya is the birth town of my grandfather! Antalya, a town where history and culture are more than evident, combined with the beauty of nature, is a place where our Congress, I believe, will fit in perfectly.
The Executive Committee the Secretariat and the Organizing Committee with the PCO are working closely together in order to present the three components of the Congress, multi culture, education and business in the best possible way, having Friendship as a solid basis.
I am sure projects like the ”International Ecotourism Awards”, the ”Sustainable Development of Tourism”, the Protection of Children from any kind of exploitation in Tourism, reflect how much Skal cares for the environment, and how much it is supporting Ethics and Quality in our industry, all of which you can find in the Congress, together with lectures on interesting topics related to tourism.
A lot of cultural and other interesting events are planned and the tours will give you the chance to explore one more beautiful country. It is only by attending the Congress that you can understand the internationality of Skal, experience the richness the different cultures bring and you can feel that you belong to the large family of Skal which makes us citizens of this world.
Of course you can benefit from participating in the Congress in more practical ways. You can use the potential which the big platform of Skal is giving you to do business!
The Tourism Forum with the B2B workshop, in its second year, will be more elaborate with more time, more space for you to make your professional contacts.
”Doing Business Among Friends” has now more tangible results and is a challenge.
Special prices for Young Skal members will give the chance to you young professionals to be present too. You will discover the professional opportunities, you will benefit from the experience of the older members and you can freely communicate your ideas to a broad audience.
But your participation in the Congress is one of the member's duties. Being the delegate of your Club at the General Assembly, you get a lot of useful information, you vote for your governing body and you have the right and the obligation to make those decisions that will enhance the image of our movement and will put Skal on a route that the majority wishes it to follow.
Meanwhile, please work for a powerful Skal, work for retaining and recruiting members. Your Club can be the Club of the Year, or it will get a distinction for its efforts to increase the number of members by 10%. You can twin your Club with another in some part of the world with common interest.
Please share with us in the Congress your successful stories, but also the difficulties you face. But be there! Your friends and your potential co-operators will be there for you.
The Organising Committee is doing their utmost for a superb Congress and I thank them for the effort they are making. Be there to experience and explore it with your senses.
